A preview of BuildCraft 3.0.0

So after a long time dedicated to fixing bugs and SMP, I finally reserved some time to new feature implementations. While initially planning to give additional work at the Builders part of the package, I got hooked playing with various requests that have been made about detector pipes and such.

But detector pipes are boring. So what I did instead is a flexible generalized detection platform, able to detect all kind of events (including items passing through pipes of course, but also chests state, tanks, machines) supported by a comprehensive multiplexed signal system. Here comes BuildCraft 3.0.0!



That is going to be a SSP beta released hopefully in a few days. Please note that this is gonna be highly beta. In particular, performances may need to be improved, API may need to be revised (modders, let me know if you need more interfaces ;-) ) and the terrible, horrifying, nightmare of SMP is set for a further step.

BuildCraft 2.2.5 IS the stable release now. There will be additional bug fixes on that branch of the technology as well. BuildCraft 3.0.0 will be unstable, beta, SSP only until things converge there. Try it out when it comes out, but don’t migrate your whole environment yet!

  1. First, good job! This system will help tremendously!

    Why not combine the AND and OR detector gates? So you have a checkbox (for example) next to each field, if the box is checked, it’s an AND field, or unchecked, an OR field. This would allow for combinations of AND and OR.
    For example:
    [Traverse] [Wood] [AND] | [Send Redstone Power]
    [Traverse] [Log] [AND] | [Send Redstone Power]
    [Traverse] [Coal] [AND] | [Send Redstone Power]
    [Traverse] [Dirt] [OR] | [Send Redstone Power]

    So in short, if Wood, logs, and coal traverse the pipe, it sends out power, OR if just dirt traverses the pipe, it will send out power. This is probably a bad example, but I think it gets the point across. Also, then there would only need to be one detector. Rather than and AND and an OR.

    Anyway, just a thought. Keep up the good work, and I cannot thank you enough for the bug fixes in SMP, you are very dedicated to Buildcraft :)

      • Yeah that’s a simpler way of doing it. It would be nice for there would only be one detector, rather than and AND and OR.

        • im fine with having AND & OR im just happ to have the state detector …. maby i wont blow up an more power plants lol thay r expencive to rebuild

          • the reason for not having both AND and OR is if you want to make semi-complicated logic you dont need both AND and OR and pipe wire to do a string that needs both to operate. like spacetoad’s super emergency backup system he used both (not including the on/off ORs) and he needed a wire to let them communicate which is a waste if you want to make something bigger because you are limited to 4 wires for inputting, outputting, and communicating between AND and OR gates

  6. Amazing. This addresses the largest weakness of buildcraft. This mod, while very useful before, has become mandatory. I’ll admit, I was worried that the usefulness of pipes would lessen with RP2′s tubes, but these improvements are exactly what was needed. In RP2, the intelligence of tubes is pre-programmed. Now, with pipes, I can control the exact programming of my system, instead of having to cater to the system’s programming. Thanks so much!!

  7. it would be awsome if you can create a tool to measure the power of conductive pipes (such as the eu-reader in industrial craft).
    and some information how much energy the different mashines use

  9. how about a pipe that will suck (100%) items out of the pipe next to it with redstone on so we dont have to rely on other mods to sort out items and change the direction of the items.it would be nice for me to flip a swich and be able to move switch of my quarry items from storage to smelting/recycling and back again

  10. I love this! I hope theirs “green fuel” so that you can grow sugarfuel (though at like 6sugarcane to 1 bucket of fuel) so its fair ;)

  11. sounds good but i have a question if you have 2 engines connected to a gate that says if red shut off and if blue r green turn on what would happen if one engine is green and the other is red

  12. Simply amazing Spacetoad you keep at it love the AND OR gates will make wiring my factory to my powerplant easier aswell as alowing me to tie them together so when 1 needs something the other sends it over simple love the sheer number of possible ways to use this keep it up
