Featuring Kraft’s Logistic Pipes

This is still a development version, but already pretty impressive… Kraft logistic pipes for BuildCraft 2.2.7 will allow you to get full control over how objects are sent in the system, automatically create dynamic crafting chains, etc. The forum of the mod, containing all download information, can be found on:

  1. I don’t really get the point of this. All of that can be done better and automated with diamond pipes and redstone.

    • The logistics pipes use a completely different system to the traditional pipes. The system is almost identical to the one used for routing the massive amount of traffic that travels through the internet (Link State Routing Protocol).

      As such, these pipes allow you to, for example, have a huge factory that requires, say, 62 different items/blocks and a single logistics pipe connected to it. That pipe will then communicate those items/blocks to the rest of the logistics pipes on the network and then any of the items it needs that enters the network are automatically routed there by the shortest route (also, if one route is destroyed by a creeper attack, the items will then be sent down another route instead, so your supply network becomes more creeper-proof). Furthermore, if you have more logistics/crafting pipes within the factory, the movement of items through the factory processes will also be completely automated, as well as (with another pipe, the requesting pipe I think) you can right click on it with an item and the network will try to find that item and route it to the request pipe you just used, or if it can’t find one but you’ve set up some crafting pipes & auto crafting tables to manufacture it, it will produce the item for you on demand, no redstone needed.

      It’s a very useful and robust system, and I think Krapht has done very well in implementing it. I’m sure you could do the same with diamond pipes and redstone, but you would and up spending hours or days designing something it would take a few minutes to build using these new pipes.

  2. Kraft?
    I foud two funny bugs:
    -Right-clicking a provider pipe will set the time to day :)
    -Request pipes will only work for a few times, then the “Fail the request” all the time.

    And I have a idea: A RedstoneRequest pipe.
    It should be configurable with a wrench, and if it is activated with Redstone, it will request the specific items.

    • Rightclicking on pipe is a debug feature accidently left in, cba to sleep while debugging, so I just rightclick a pipe. It will be gone by the next version.

      Redstone requester pipe…not entirely sure I will implement something like this, even though its been requested several times. I have some nasty bugs to squash first, and one or two new features for the next version. The interface for the requesterpipe will eventually be added, but not sure it will be redstone triggered. It’s not comming in the next version as I have something else planned =)

  3. Krapht?
    4 the input of a crafting pipe you made a sattelite pipe, why don’t you do the opposite, because that would be usefull for furnaces :
    Input coal: Sattelite pipe
    Input ore: Crafting pipe
    Output : Extractor pipe !!!!(same as Sattelite pipe, but opposite :)

  4. My Minecraft crashes if I request 64 Diamond blocks.
    I got 2 crafting tables:
    -9 Diamonds to a diamod block
    -1 diamomd block to 9 diamonds

  5. This is really fantastic. The request and craft-on-demand has a lot of power. In fact it’s primary issue might be that it’s too easy.

    The only other thing that springs to mind is the request system seems to require having the item to request the item which is an impediment.

  6. i have an idea for a new pipe when you can put it in a pipe for the nucula reacter where it has a gui of the reactor adn you can place/import the same out and set it to remove and request near depleted uranium cells and over things like coolant cells
    there may already be a way to do this if there is can some one tell me and ill be happy to try it
