Better Then BuildCraft

Happy new year to you all!

And to celebrate this new year, I’m very happy to announce the release of a new collaborative effort, Better Then BuildCraft, an integration between Better Than Wolves and BuildCraft made by FlowerChild himself! As of today, it’s built on top of the standard BuildCraft 2.2.11. Check out the trailer video:

In short, this integrations provide a comprehensive tech tree between the two mods. Key BuildCraft recipes have been changed to fit the new gameplay. All details are available from FlowerChild Minecraft’s post http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/910330-10-better-then-buildcraft-v-10-upd-dec-31st/. Enjoy!

  1. What have you done Spacetoad? I have to agree with you that BTW also is awsome, but merging it wit BC. WHY? THat will make it incompatible with all the other forge mods like IC and RP. WHY?!?!

    • Red Power has cool things, like more powerfull wires and deployer… all other is not very good, and I prefer the BuildCraft.

Industirial Craft – really strange mod, I don’t understand it idea and fun of play…

Better than Wolves really cool things: elevators, nice lights, doors :)

So, I think better do compatible BuildCraft, Better Than Wolves, Industrial Craft and Red Power

    • @dirkleonschut it’s not a merge, it’s a compatibilty layer. All Forge mods will stay compatible with BuildCraft but on top of that, if you want to play with BTW, you can install that layer and get the Better Than BuildCraft experience.

  2. @dirkleonschut this is just if you want to use BTW.
Buildcraft will surely be developed as it is and compatible with all forge mods.

I also don’t see the point of Better than Buildcraft. Its kind by Spacetoad to allow Flowerchild to make this mod. But it just satisfy to Flowerchild, Sorry! He left the forge Api and with that he should be left alone!
And if you look at Better than Buildcraft: What has he changed?
the Redstone engine now needs mechanical BTW power which makes it useless for advanced buildcraft systems. The other changes are only a rework of the recipes.

  3. The main point of this integration is to put together a comprehensive user experience between BTW and BC for people playing with the BTW kind of game. BuildCraft will remain developped on its own, will stay forge based and standalone. But for people that want to play it along with BTW, there’s now this integration layer which not only provides compatiblity, but adjusts the user experience to fit a consistent gameplay.

  4. I like the idea of FlowerChild’s “Tier” system, and I always would have loved to see this in BC, IC and RP…but alas, it’s just a menagerie of stuff piled together (I especially like the idea of using the engines as the recipe to upgrade to higher engines). However, I personally hate everything else about BTW….everything (gear axles only go like 2 blocks before you need a gear box, everything is “expensive”, requirement to go into the nether for extended amount of time, requirements of water transportation systems causes limitations, etc. etc. f’ing etc.).

FC can keep his medieval contraptions and laggy EntityItem stuff floating all over the world, I would much rather set up a fully automated industrial production facility from scratch or make a complete computer system using RP2…that’s more fun to me.

  5. I have to give you at least a +2 for surprises SpaceToad. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes.

  6. Silly question but *why*? FC proceeded to take the well balanced BC experience and ruin the hell out of it. I mean sheesh, those pipe recipes are ridiculous.

    • This is really an alternative experience. If you like the good old BuildCraft design, no worries, you can still use it as-is with not a single change.

  7. youtube qote:

    Das tut uns leid.

can someone make a clip that runs in Germany, please

    LG Playprogramm

  8. You know, I feel kinda bad pointing this out, but apparently nobody else is going to so uh
Shouldn’t it be ‘Better *Than* BuildCraft’? Speaking grammatically, I BELIEVE that makes sense.

    • I also thought that! THERE CANT BE ANY MOD BEATING BUILDCRAFT!!!!!! Some mods are good, but CANT EVEN COME CLOSE
      (srry for caps)

  9. For the ones not getting the pun… think if it this way… (first) better, then buildcraft

  10. I understand the point of this: An alternative way to play BC. That’s cool.
But is this going to draw away a lot of time and attention from strait BC? That would bug me. I understand that modders are people, and only have so much time to spend on their mods. Right now that finite amount of time is being spent on BC alone. I am worried that you will stretch yourself too far with this. A happy Spacetoad is a happy Buildcraft userbase :)

    • Most work in this project is none by FC, so I doubt it would delay Buildcraft development noticeably.

  11. I don´t understand why you all get so exercised about this.
As Spacetoad said it´s only a compatiblety Layer between Buildcraft and BTW like Powerconverters does this with BC and IC².
This increased the experience of playing BC and BTW together with a lot of new potencial tha has to be uncovered.
And if you don´t like it just don´t use it ;P

  12. Is there a Chance someone makes a power converter mod for BC-RedPower? Or does something like that exist?
It would be great, even when I think it’s hard to balance it.
Producing the light the lasers emit with light the solar panels get :D

I really love BuildCraft and its direct, mechanical powering but when it comes to electrical power it isn’t really satisfying to me. There is no generator between engine and conductive pipe. Also it’s a bit strange to transport the power throught pipes. The rest is awesome, keep it up! (:

    • Try BuildCraft and IC² together.
And use PowerCrystals mod “PowerConverters” with this can directly transformate BC energy out of Engines into EU.
and the Mod has some other really interesting features too

  13. going of subject to everyones rants and revelations about BTW.
SpaceToad this might not be the place to ask it but ive searched everywhere for tutorials on creating stuff for buildcraft eg new pipes etc
but no one has one apart from installing the mod and i thought maybe in your spare time when your not focusing on the up and coming alpha you could perhaps do a tut or something because im a noob at coding and wondered if you could dum it down and perhaps it will help you in time to come (purposly not putting why it will help you because there are lots of ways and i want you to think outside the box kind of thing.)

    • If you are interested in building additional mod pipes or even changing the way buildcraft works I would recommend starting with a good e/book on Java. Spacetoad has been kind enough to publish the entire source of this project on a source code repository. Understanding what is there starts with understanding Java. It is nearly impossible to do a tutorial for people who dont know Java basics. If you start at the repository you will also see that Spacetoad has been working morning, noon and night on the upcoming release of 3.2. You can follow along with his progress as well as learn the inner mechanics of buildcraft.

Thank you Spacetoad for your tireless dedication to this amazing mod and also for having an open source licence on it!

  14. the best thing would be that flowerchild joins the forge again so people can decide for them selves wich mod they want to do whit it. i thought it WAS a great mod, until he left forge. i think it’s sad cause it could be the best mod but this downer transforms it in a lame mod. cause on it’s own i don’t like the mod
