Okay, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here. I’ve got Minecraft 1.0.0, and I’m like 98% sure that I’ve installed ModLoader 1.0, ModLoader MP 1.0, and Minecraft Forge (I’ve tried 1.2.3, 1.2.4 & 1.2.5 now) correctly. When I place all the buildcraft 2.2.11 files in the mod folder and start up Minecraft, it loads up fine.

The problem comes when I try to use any engine. When I send a redstone signal into the engine I get the red particle effect, but the engine doesn’t start. The redstone engine will start turning green like it’s heating up, but it won’t do anything else.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I’ve also tried the package installer and installing them manually… it all is the same.

Would love a reply to this as I’m having the exact same problem. I placed down a few redstone engines and they were doing fine, then suddenly when I tried to place one more what you described happened. The “old” ones seem to keep going though. Anyone?

EDIT: Clicking them with a wrench does nothing either

Yeah, the wrench does nothing for me either

please try using buildcraft 2.2.10, and dont use Tmi to get the engine.
the report back :)

That’s a negative Ghost Rider… 2.2.10 doesn’t work either and for reference I wasn’t using TMI before. I had tried in Creative mode and Survival and neither worked

Sorry, to be more specific. The same exact thing was happening with 2.2.10 where the wrench doesn’t work and the engines don’t start up

“That’s a negative Ghost Rider”….that’s a very specific phrase…..do I happen to know you per chance? It’s a very common phrase around my work from one particular person, Brian.

Ok, here’s the deal, engines must be facing an object that takes power. Because your “redstone engine turns green but doesn’t do anything” is a very good indication that you are not facing it correctly. Machines, another engine, or a _wooden conductive pipe_ are things that allow engines to transfer their power. Keep in mind that redstone engines do not give enough power to a wooden conductive pipe, so don’t even try…..but they will work on wooden transport and wooden waterproof pipes.

If your machine is not facing the correct way, just right click with the wrench and it will turn to face a different direction. The directions it chooses let you know correct facings…if it doesn’t move when you hit it with a wrench, then you either have only 1 input spot, or you have none.

Redstone engines will not explode if they are facing a proper input acceptor, otherwise they will…..steam and combustion will if you allow them to overheat.

Alright, person I apparently know IRL (Can I get a hint?). I appreciate the info, but I do know that stuff, I have used buildcraft in the past. I think the one for Minecraft 1.8.3 worked for me. That’s the most frustrating part. I really can’t think of a reason why this isn’t working…

The problem is that the wrench doesn’t turn the engines, and I’ve tried all 3 types of engines and even placed things above the engine (the direction it is facing). To rule out other things, I saw someone mention something about alternating redstone current so I tried that too…and I did make sure to have the right fuel types for the engines.

Nothing.

Try this, put down 2 wooden transport pipes separated by 1 block, then put down a redstone engine right in the middle….whack it with the wrench a few times and tell me what happens. Then put a redstone torch next to it and tell me what happens.

If you truly are Brian or Ryan (the only 2 I know of that use that phrase)….then I’ll talk to you at work, although I can’t remember if you work sundays or not.

The trick with the pipes worked! I’ll have a bit more time to mess with it tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

I definitely don’t work Sundays, but my name is Brian. That line is from Top Gun perhaps its all coincidence

Well unfortunately you aren’t him…but it is a huge coincidence. I talked to him last night at work, his name is Brian too, and he told me about the Top Gun thing as well. I haven’t seen that movie in over 20 years, so it’s just weird.

Anyway, I’m glad it worked.
